Monday, the 7th of November 2022, Executive Director of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) Nevine Gamea said the hosting of the 27th session of the Conference of Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Egypt ascertains the international community's confidence in the policies Egypt adopts and in the ability of its wise leadership to manage the file of climate challenges efficiently despite conditions the world is currently witnessing.
Gamea stressed that MSMEDA is an integral part of the Government and works in line with the directives of H.E. the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El Sisi to guarantee that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises abide with environmental conditions and safeguards. She added MSMEDA is taking effectives strides towards achieving sustainable development and integrating this concept into all its activities in close cooperation with the different institutions of the Government.
On the occasion of Egypt’s hosting of COP 27, Gamea said MSMEDA is one the first development institutions to launch initiatives to finance small enterprises conforming to environmental criteria and contributing to addressing climate challenges. MSMEDA, she elaborated, has started numerous enterprises that take part in accelerating the national plans on environmental protection. MSMEDA, in addition, provides various aspects of support to sustainable development enterprises like financing energy and biogas generation, primitive charcoal furnaces upgrading and rice straw collection and compressing Gamea concluded.
Gamea emphasized MSMEDA encourages youth to start-up environment-friendly enterprises and stressed that for any enterprise seeking MSMEDA finance, it should adhere to environmental criteria and regulations.
According to its environmental protection strategy, the Executive Director further explained that MSMEDA cooperates with Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs and all parties engaged in environmental action. She added MSMEDA also aims to share knowledge and experience with national, regional and international organizations entrusted with environmental protection. To this end, Gamea highlighted that MSMEDA is also consolidating cooperation with donor agencies for supporting the environmental programs and projects it executes namely, these community infrastructure projects that bear an environmental dimension i.e. hygiene and environmental awareness campaigns, disposal of waste, protection of River Nile Banks, removal of weeds form ends of small canals.
Within this context, Gamea reiterated MSMEDA has also launched many initiatives in all the governorates of Egypt conforming to environmental international standards. These initiatives already contribute to developing infrastructure and community services on a sustained basis and include, without limitations, substituting and upgrading charcoal furnaces, collecting rice straw and agricultural harvests, generating biogas and new and renewable energy (solar energy) and recycling waste …
